Why Hexcyl

The Hexcyl Pro Range maximises stock density and improves water flow. With five basket mesh sizes, Pro baskets ensure stronger growth and long-term durability.

Low-Cost Systems

Shortcomings can cost more than you think.

Cheap oyster baskets and aquaculture systems may save upfront, but frequent breakages, poor stock growth, and high replacement rates increase labour and operating costs over time. Hexcyl’s durable, farm-tested systems minimise hidden costs while maximising yield.

Frequent Breakages

Low-cost baskets and clips are prone to catastrophic failure and warping, leading to repeated replacements and increased farm downtime.

Higher Long-Term Costs

Ongoing loss of oysters and costs associated with maintaining the inevitable repair and replacement of cheap infrastructure are the leading causes of economic loss on shellfish farms.

Increased Labour

Inefficient handling and high maintenance of low cost systems divert valuable time and resources away from essential day to day farming tasks.

Reduced Stock Quality

Poorly designed baskets can cause uneven water flow and stock distribution, impacting shellfish growth and conditioning.

Environmental Impact

The failure and redundancy of low cost oyster farming basket infrastructure increases the risk of pollution to both marine and terrestrial environments.

Limited Productivity

The inefficiency associated with handling smaller capacity designs becomes apparent when a greater number of baskets are required to house the same amount of oysters.

Material & Engineering Differences

Built to last in harsh marine environments.

Hexcyl baskets use UV-stabilised, impact-resistant materials and precision-engineered hexagonal designs to provide superior strength and water flow. Unlike cheap alternatives, our baskets maintain their shape, resist cracking, and last 10+ years, reducing downtime and replacement costs.

VL-5.5

Available in 500m (1640 ft.) and 1000m (3280 ft) spools

Custom made Vexcyl line was specifically developed for longline oyster farming. This extremely user friendly product meets all OH&S requirements and is now considered the preferred longline to use by many new and existing oyster farmers. 3% line tension is all that is required for correctly tensioned lines. Vexcyl line is also available cut to order in custom lengths on individual spools.

OT-10.8

Black Ultra violet resistant LDPE designed to provide added protecton to the Vexcyl long line. Standard 500 metre (1640 ft) spools.

WRS-13

Hexcyl wear reduction sleeves offer additional protection when attached to each Hexcyl post riser. Available in 230 mm (9″) lengths, with 500 pieces per bag

Environmental and Operational Impact

Environmental & Operational Impact

Sustainable farming starts with the right system.

Hexcyl reduces line stress and promotes water flow, supporting healthier stock and lower biofouling.

Durable materials and secure clips minimise breakages, cut maintenance, and extend basket and farm infrastructure life, lowering environmental and operational impact.
